Ski Trip 2009

Eric and I took the college group from church on a ski trip. While we were there, we saw a little girl about the girls' size with her Dora skis trailing along behind her Dad. Eric and I love to ski and hadn't been able to take our annual ski trip since the girls were born. I learned to ski when I was a lot younger and remember my brother being their age when he learned. So we thought it would be "fun" to take Abigail and Ansley. We decided on Paoli Peaks, since they were the only place nearby with ski boots small enough for the girls. We had a great trip, and the weather was perfect for the girls...in the 70's. However, that means it wasn't perfect for the snow, which was melting away right before our eyes, but there was almost no one else there so we were treated like celebrities! We managed to get two good days in of letting the girls get the "feel" of the skis. Eric and I were absolutely exhausted. The girls weren't quite strong enough to support themselves going down the hills so we had to hold them most of the way. They were able to ski/walk when it was more flat. Baby #3 (7 wks) was also a good sport and wasn't too hard on me while we were there! :) We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to next year's trip!!!

When we got to the hotel, the girls were excited to find their swimsuits and insisted on putting them on. They didn't care if the pool was closed. There are some battles not worth winning.

First run down the slopes (We thought the bunny lift was closed so we took the whole run down to the bottom and had to take the bigger, longer, higher chairlift up. We had tight grips on the girls. Thankfully, we realized the other lifts were open later!)

The girls were able to take their naps while we were there. The first day, we laid a blanket in front of the fire in the lodge, and they fell asleep in the floor. The second day the resort manager saw us laying out our blanket again and offered to let us use the ski school room since no one was there. After their naps, they were ready to hit the slopes again.

(On the way to Indiana, we stopped as McDonald's to eat. Ansley realized that there wasn't a slide and said, "There is no slide here. It makes me so sad." We laughed and got back on the road. Later, after passing a McDonald's with a slide, Ansley said, "That McDonald's has a slide. It makes me so happy." We mustn't ever forget the small things in life!)
