Mischief
Everyone always says that two minds are better than one, but when asking a parent of twins or a parent of more than one child, it seems that "better" might not be the best word to use. Two minds working together can also be a lot more dangerous or mischievous than one! Abigail and Ansley work as a team on almost everything that they get into, I mean, everything that they do. Their special bed time books are kept up high on a shelf in their room. One night, as we are getting the girls ready for bed, we told Ansley to go on in her room for a story. By the time we got in there, she was sitting in the chair reading it to herself. Puzzled, we put it back up on the shelf and ask her to get it. She quickly says "ok" and proudly steps on the arm of the chair, then steps on top of the dresser, grabs the book, and sits back down in the chair grinning from ear to ear...all while she is wearing her high heeled Cinderella slippers. Needless to say, the chair is now further from the dresser!
On Sunday night, we were having the college group over for dinner so Mommy needed to go shopping for food. So after we got home from church and lunch, we put the girls down for their naps, and Mommy heads out the door, thinking that Daddy won't have to worry with them very long by himself since they will nap most of the time. Well, the girls had other plans. Daddy went down to check on them one time, and both of them had pulled off their pull ups and peed in the middle of the floor, but, still, they smiled proudly as Daddy walked in. Thinking he has them in bed again, he goes back to working on the new computer (Our old one crashed! Uggh!). Hearing them giggling, he goes downstairs to find them in the back bedroom, where Santa had hid some of their presents. They had gotten into the closet and were pulling out several of the presents and were having a big time. Daddy quickly got onto them and told them that if they didn't get in bed, then Santa wouldn't come see them. Quickly, one of them replied, "Santa already brought our presents to the closet, Daddy!" (Those presents were then from Mommy and Daddy instead...and the back bedroom was locked until after Christmas.) Another attempt at getting them in bed, hearing them talking, and Daddy coming downstairs to see what was going on, they were found in the bathroom standing over the toilet, sticking their hands in each others diapers, pulling the poopy out, and putting it in the toilet. Again, so proud of their accomplishment. He asks them what they are doing, and they reply "We are helping, Daddy!" Finally, the girls gave in and laid down for a nap. When Mommy finally arrived home, she could tell it had been a long afternoon!
After their nap, Mommy was cooking, and the doorbell rang. Mommy asked Daddy to answer the door so he left the girls...unattended...in the playroom. After going back upstairs, he found Ansley with Sharpie markings on her neck, on the table, and in some of their dishes. Great. So we quickly began trying to clean up the mess. Using cleaner to try to get it off the table, the cleaner bottle was on the floor. When turning around and seeing Ansley with her mouth near the spout, I smelt it, and, sure enough, it smelt like cleaner, which resulted in a call to Poison Control, forcing her to drink lots of water, and rinsing her mouth out. And, we thought we had found all of her "artwork" until later that night when we were cleaning up and saw some art on the back of the chair, wall, and pillow. The Magic Eraser really does work! And those that are wondering, why would we leave a Sharpie lying around? We didn't. It was in the closet upstairs that was tied shut with a rubber band. Now we will be replacing the rubber band with something stronger. Santa even called them on the phone to remind them that he was watching to see if they were being naughty or nice. They were so excited to talk to Santa, that they missed the point of the phone call.
Since the college group was coming over for dinner after church, and we knew the girls wouldn't go to bed with them there, and that they can sleep through anything, we decided that I would stay home with them, get them in bed at their bedtime, since they usually are asleep by 7, and then everyone would come over, and they would never know. Right. They were put in bed over and over again, Mommy found them in the linen closet, trying to sneak into other parts of the house, trying to get the back bedroom unlocked, etc. Mommy even tried to lock them in their rooms for a little while. Thinking they were asleep, I opened the door and found the contents of their entire dresser strewn all over the room. Everyone started arriving from church, and the girls definitely wouldn't go to sleep then so they got to enjoy hanging out with all of their college friends until way past their bedtime. Whew! What a day, yes, that was just one day, which was, by far, the most "eventful" that we have had so far.

was the one caught "in the act", we are certain that she had an accomplice.
And on the phone with Santa.
Busted!!! In the linen closet
So the question is, will Abigail and Ansley be on Santa's naughty or nice list? There are still too many days until Christmas to make that call! :)

I don't think that I should have read this! That is one unbelieveable day! I'm sure there will be more like that to come. I think that twins are worse when it comes to getting into stuff. They do work as a team. Let me know if you get this all figured out! Nathan has already called 911! I'm know that I am in for it.

Welcome to the joys of parenthood!! Thanks for the good laugh and the reminder that my kids are normal. I'm so glad mine are out of that curious toddler stage. Now if we can just make it through preschool and elementary school. :)
By the way, hide all writing utensils (you'd be amazed at what artwork can be done with a crayon on the human body)!!! And yes, Magic Erasers are wonderful and do work! It's a parent's best friend.
So when are you going to try for number #3 (and possibly 4)?!
